FUEL TANKER ACCIDENT AT KIGOWA KASANGATI WAKISO DISTRICT

Frontiers Post

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, has confirmed a tragic incident involving a fuel tanker that overturned and burst into flames along the Kampala-Bombo highway in Kigowa, Kasangati, Wakiso District. The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, Uganda has seen an increase in road-related incidents involving fuel tankers. According to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), there has been a 12% rise in tanker accidents in the past two years, attributed to poor road conditions and reckless driving. The stretch between Kampala and Bombo is particularly notorious, with frequent accidents reported due to its high traffic volume and inadequate safety measures.

This incident adds to the growing concerns about road safety in Uganda, where the Ministry of Works and Transport reports that over 3,500 people lose their lives in road accidents annually, many of them due to commercial vehicle crashes.
