BULAMBULI'S MAIZE MAZE: A Masterclass in Waste

Image
Bulambuli is currently a verdant ocean of maize crops, promising yet another bumper harvest. This will inevitably lead to rock-bottom prices when selling to Kenya, bringing us right back to our favorite starting point: square one. This fateful loop plays out with the regularity of a broken record in this corner of Uganda, a place that could generously be called the nation's food basket, but yet could be the country's lifeblood as well.  Let's crunch some numbers to appreciate the looming absurdity. If one acre yields 10 bags (100 kg each) of maize, and each kilogram fetches a sum of 600 UGX, then Bulambuli, with about 150,000 acres, should rake in a staggering 90 billion UGX. This, at their lowest farm gate price, eclipses the combined generosity of the Emioga and PDM projects combined, and could ostensibly promote household self-sufficiency. So why can't we live in a world where reality matches this statistical revenue? If our leaders could muster the coura...

UNMASKING THE TRUTH IN THE THEATRE OF POWER

Image
In the grand theatre of Ugandan politics, a curious spectacle unfolds. Politicians, those seasoned thespians, don their finest masks and step onto the stage, each more elaborate than the last. There's the mask of the benevolent leader, all smiles and promises, bestowed upon the weary electorate like a gleaming talisman. Beneath it, of course, lies the face of self-interest, wrinkled by years of backroom deals and whispered secrets. Next, we have the mask of the devout patriot, wrapped tightly in the national flag, exuding an aura of unwavering loyalty. This mask is especially popular around election time, when every speech is peppered with fervent declarations of love for the motherland. Yet, peel back this patriotic carrot, and one finds a well-practiced cynicism, ready to trade principles for power at the drop of a ballot. Among these, the most colorful mask is the one of the "Man of the People," tinted with the bright hues of populist rhetoric. This mask sm...

EMPOWERING SELF-RELIANCE: Breaking the Cycle of Dependency in the Elgon Region

Image
By;  Wamboka Jephther Prince  Aspirant for MP Bulambuli Constituency 2026 Basing on the recent observations about our leaders in the Elgon metropolitan area, where everyone seems to want to meet the president, and most likely for self centred reasons only strengthens the dependency syndrome that has for decades reduced our heritage to ruins.  Yet breaking away from a culture of dependency will be challenging when our leadership continues to perpetuate it. Despite the Elgon region's wealth in agricultural potential and mineral resources, we have reduced our people to modern-day beggars. Instead of promoting a strong work ethic, we focus on trivial matters and personal egos. This harmful trend must be addressed and reversed immediately. This dependency culture took root when government began household  programs like  distributing pangas, axes, blankets, and hoes. This promoted peasantry, but good enough, the focus shifted to subsidized ADB and World Ba...

Image
ENLIGHTENMENT HAS TILTED BULAMBULI'S POLITICAL LANDSCAPE By Jephther Prince Wamboka   For eons, the cunning opportunists of Bulambuli have been having a field day, exploiting the blissfully ignorant masses. Gone are the days of voting for the biggest handout; now it's all about...wait for it.. .independent decision-making.  We're now preaching and empowering people with work ethics and creativity is this new rage. It's not business as usual. Who knew this would atlast happen to us?
